There's a kind of tired that sleep doesn't fix.  It comes from being the person who keeps going. The one who figures it out. The one everyone calls when something goes wrong. The one who says, "I'm fine," because explaining everything underneath those two words feels more exhausting than carrying it.  And somewhere along the way, people start calling you strong. It sounds like a compliment... and most of the time, it is.  But sometimes being strong feels a lot like being told, "I know you'll handle it." And maybe you're tired of handling it.  When Being Strong Becomes an Expectation - Sometimes we become strong because we had no other choice. Life happened, people needed us, responsibilities didn't stop, and there wasn't exactly a button we could press to put everything on hold while we figured ourselves out.  So, we adapted. We learned how to hurt and function at the same time. How to show up for work with things weighing heavily on our minds. How to take care of the people we love while quietly wondering who was taking care of us.  How to laugh, make plans, answer messages, handle responsibilities and keep moving... Even during seasons when we were barely holding ourselves together.  Eventually, strength stops feeling like something you have and starts feeling like something you're required to be. But you are allowed to get tired. Strength Doesn't Always Look Strong - Maybe strength isn't always pushing through. Maybe sometimes it's saying, "I can't do this today." Maybe it's asking for help. Maybe it's crying in the car before walking inside and continuing with your day. Maybe it's finally setting the boundary you've been terrified to set. Maybe it's walking away from something you desperately wanted to work. Maybe it's starting over when you never planned on starting over. Maybe it's simply making it through a day that nobody else knew was difficult.  These are victories in your life that nobody will ever clap for because nobody knew there was a battle happening in the first place.  THEY STILL COUNT! You Don't Have to Earn Rest - This is something I think a lot of us struggle with. We tell ourselves we'll slow down when everything is finished. When everyone else is ok. When the house is clean. When the work is done. When the kids are taken care of. When the problem is solved.When life finally calms down.  Except... Life has a funny way of replacing one thing with another.  And before we know it, we've spent months, sometimes years, putting ourselves the bottom of our own list.  Rest doesn't have to be something you earn after you've completely exhausted yourself. Neither does PEACE. Neither does asking for help. Neither does having a bad day. You are a human being, not everyone's emergency contact.  Maybe You Needed to Hear This Today -  You can be grateful and overwhelmed. You can love your life and still need a break from it. You can love people deeply and still need space. You can be proud of how far you've come and still grieve what it took to get there. You can be independent and still wish someone would take care of you for once. You can be strong and still have moments when you don't want to be.  THOSE THINGS CAN EXIST TOGETHER! And none of them erase everything you've overcome.  This Space Is For You, Too - Maybe you came to North & Noble Co. because you were shopping. Maybe you clicked on this because the title felt a little too familiar Maybe you're reading this at midnight while everyone else is asleep and, for once, nobody needs anything from you.  However you got here, I'm glad you did. Because this is exactly why I wanted The North Circle to exist. Not as a place where someone pretends to have all the answers. But as a place where we can talk about the things people don't always say out loud.  The messy parts. The rebuilding. The grief. The growth. The days we're proud of ourselves and the days we're simply proud we made it through.  So, for the person who's tired of being strong: You don't have to prove your strength every single day.  Some days, strength is conquering the world. Other days, it's putting your phone on Do Not Disturb, getting comfortable, turning on the music that makes everything a little quieter, and deciding that whatever isn't an emergency can wait until tomorrow. Both versions of you are worthy of being proud of. And if today was one of those days where all you managed to do was keep going? THAT WAS ENOUGH. <3 Lindsay Raney
